    STEAMED OAT MASH

    1 Teaspoon salt
    1 Pound rolled, crushed or crimped oats
    3 Carrots
    2 Apples
    1 c. molasses

    Mix all ingredients in the feed bucket. Combine with enough boiling water to cover the mixture allowing the oats to soak up the water.

    Cover and let steam until cool enough to feed to your horse.

    Takes about 1/2 hour preparation time

    2 Quarts of wheat or rice bran (8 cups)
    1 cup of Quaker oats (or any rolled oats)
    3/4 cup of applesauce
    1-1/2 cup of hot water

    Mix all ingredients together until the bran and oats are well moistened.

    ADD-INS FOR VARIETY:

    You can add a couple of tablespoons of honey or molasses for a little added sweetness;
    For a crunchy surprise, try adding about a cup full of chopped apples or carrots, raisins, pears (or any of your horses’ favorite fruit or veggie OR toss a tad bit of several different things in there!

    For extra nutritional benefits, you can add a couple of tablespoons of oil

    This from one of our fans! Take your Monster Mash and prepare – then freeze in two – three containers – freeze and serve – it’s a Monster Pop!

    •3 lbs. of bran (approximately)
    •¼ cup of molasses
    •1 cup of grated carrot
    •4 cups of hot/cold water (approximately)

    Let stand for 5 minutes (hot water) 15 minutes (cold water). For added interest, I also put in fruit when in season. Now, I use strawberries…Yumm.

    I have never actually fed my horse mash! And even though it was about 100 degrees today, winter IS coming, and with it cool and cold and colder weather that would be great to give a warm mash to my beautiful girl.
    Fingers crossed! And in the meantime, I’m totally snagging other’s recipes 🙂

    I just use bran mixed with a little cob. My horses seem to like it.

    Wife mixes up a batch of rice bran mixed with fruits and veggies. Flax seed oil is added to this as well. Sunday is a happy day for the horses!

    Bought a package of Deco’s Monster Mash and it was great! Divided into 2 containers and froze them. Had a little trouble getting the frozen pops out of the containers (should have put them in better containers) but when I gave them to my guys they really liked them. Initially, they just looked at the Monster Pops and then started chomping away. Both were very happy eating their “pops” in our hot weather. By the way, the Deco’s Monster Mash is nothing like your typical bran mashes that are out there! Thank you Pippa Equine for developing a great mash.
